Fire Prevention
Firewise Home Assessment Page The North Fork Fire Protection District covers 250 square miles consisting of national, state, county forests and recreation areas and approximately 650 homes in Buffalo Creek, Pine, Spring Creek and outlaying areas of the district. Our district and your homes are in an area that is and will continue to be highly prone to wildland fire. For this reason your district has become proactive in wildland fire pre-planning and assessment activities. With support and financial aid from the Colorado State Forest Service, the services of the Anchor Point Wildland Fire Mitigation Group were obtained to assess our district. This assessment involved such things as:
Out of this effort came a computer database with information that can:
- Roadway/driveway access for fire apparatus
- Water Supply
- Address signage
- Mapping location of homes and roadways
- Terrain and vegetation
- Defensible Space
- And More.....
- Assist the homeowner in determining what can be done to mitigate against property loss in the event of a wildland fire event; and
- Aid and train your volunteer firefighters to determine how to best deploy scarce resources during a wildland fire event.
